On September 12th in the Republican Primary, I came in ninth overall in a ten candidate field. All the incumbents were re-elected. In my hometown of Alton I came in third place, after only Mike Whalley (Alton) and Janet Allan (Barnstead). In Barnstead I tied for 6th place. In Gilford I came in 9th place. In Belmont, I came in last, one vote less than 9th place, and three votes less than 8th place.
Had I received 75 more votes, things would be different. As it is, campaigning is lots of fun. I had a great time, but ended my public service on the Alton Planning Board.
I want to thank my dad and R.T. Lincoln, my fiscal agent, for their help holding signs and schmoozing for me on primary day. Thanks to the folks who allowed me to place signs on their property, those brave souls who donated a total of $50 to a candidate who started off with little name recognition, and my uncle who lost some years ago in Wolfeboro, but still had a few beautiful signs and bumperstickers which he gave to my campaign. I also want to thank nearly 500 voters in district five who voted for me, everyone else who voted in what has to be one of the worst primary turn-outs in New Hampshire history, and The Longabaughs of Alton Community Television for planning and recording candidate's night. You are all terrific!
